Overview

connectBot has been designed to automate job search networking via LinkedIn. However, it essentially serves as a one-stop solution for your job search needs; you can search for relevant jobs, organize your search and network with the right people for jobs you apply to, all in one place.

To make things clearer, let’s have a look at the steps involved in a typical job search process that is networking intensive:

  1. We search popular job boards (Indeed, LinkedIn jobs etc) using relevant keywords (IT Analyst etc) for our desired job
  2. Once we find an open role that is of interest, we search LinkedIn to find people that may be in similar roles or ideally in the team that is hiring (in the same company of course)
  3. We send connection requests to any relevant people that we find in step 2; ideally with a personalized message that shows our interest in the advertised role

connectBot will help you centralize and automate step 1 to 3 above, as follows:

  1. Automate Job Search:

The jobs dashboard on connectBot will show you jobs (from common job boards) in a table containing the following key information on each job:

    • Company Name
    • Job Title
    • Publication Date
    • Location
    • Link (A link redirecting you to the job board containing details of the role)

  2. Automate LinkedIn Connections Search:

For one or more jobs of interest, you can select the job(s) and click the “find potential LinkedIn connections” button on the top left of the jobs table. This will show you 20 potential LinkedIn connections for each selected job. Just like the jobs dashboard, this connections dashboard will be displayed as a table containing the following info on each potential LinkedIn connection:

    • Their headline on LinkedIn
    • Their LinkedIn URL

  3. Automate Sending Connection Requests:

Select people you would like to connect with and press the “Send connection requests to selected” button on the top left, above the connections table.

So, if you are up for adding some steroid injections to your job search, go for it!

Pre-requisites:

LinkedIn

One of our most awesome features is the ability to automate LinkedIn outreach. You need to sign in and provide us your LinkedIn cookie and make sure you remain signed in to that session (this will happen as long as you do not sign out and only close the browser when done).

As a user, you will be interfacing most regularly with two dashboards; the jobs dashboard and the people’s dashboard.

Jobs Dashboard

This dashboard aims to simplify the daunting search results you receive once you enter your desired job title in a job search engine. Our dashboard encapsulates the most pertinent information about each job opening and gives you the original link in case you want to view further details. Following is the information displayed on the jobs dashboard:

  • Company Name
  • Job Title
  • Publication Date
  • Location
  • Link (A link redirecting you to the job board containing details of the role)

Job Dates Selection: You need to tell us how many days prior to the current day you want to view jobs for in the job dates section. You will be prompted to select this date range at every fresh sign in.

Connections Dashboard

Once you select one or more jobs on the dashboard and press the “find potential LinkedIn connections” button, you will see the connections dashboard. This dashboard contains potential LinkedIn connections relevant to the job(s) you selected. For each job you select, you will be shown 20 potential connections. The following info (columns) is displayed about each potential connection:

  • Name: This column contains the name of the person on LinkedIn as well as their headline. This will often be enough information for you to make your decision
  • LinkedIn: This column contains the LinkedIn URL of the person and will help in case you need to explore further
  • Company: This column will only show the name of the company of the original job posting that you selected in the previous dashboard. This is very important to note; the company name shown here is used when sending your LinkedIn connection request if you use the #company# tag in your message. Therefore, to confirm whether the person is actually in the company of the job posting, you will have to use either their LinkedIn headline in the name column or click their LinkedIn url link to view their profile.
  • Job Title: This column, like the previous one, is actually used for customizing your connection request message if you use the #jobtitle# tag. It does not have anything to do with the person’s job title.
  • Actions: When you click the pencil icon, you will be able to edit the company name and job title since that is often necessary in order for your message to not look robotic. For instance, if you find a potential connection at connectBot and the company name listed in the job post was connectBot Inc, you would be advised to edit the name to just connectBot. Same logic holds for job title which is why the edit functionality is a game changer.

Once you have selected the people you would like to connect with, press the “Send connection request to selected” button.

You will have to ensure following these instructions for our automation to work for you, let’s start simply with the form fields:

Main Setup:

  1. LinkedIn Cookie (how to retrieve): to be able to send messages through your LinkedIn account, your Linkedin cookie from a signed in session (the session needs to remain signed in so you can close your browser but not sign out) is required.
  2. Custom message: connectBot allows you to send LinkedIn messages to the desired person using their first name, company name. You can also use the advertised job role in your message. The three tags are as follows: #firstname#, #company#, #jobtitle#. Following is a sample message that you can enter in our settings section:

    Hi #firstname#,

I recently saw the position of #jobtitle# open at #company#. I would love to discuss if I may be a good fit for this role.

Let’s say you find an open position of Network Engineer at Enbridge through our jobs dashboard and move on to the connections dashboard to find potential LinkedIn connections. In our potential connections list, you see that Jon Doe is already a network engineer at Enbridge and decide to send him a connection request through our platform. Jon Doe will receive the connection request as follows:

    Hi Jon,

I recently saw the position of Network Engineer open at Enbridge. I would love to discuss if I may be a good fit for this role.

Awesome feature alert:

At connectBot we understand that the job title and company name written on the list provided through job boards may not be ideal for a personalized message which is why we equip you with the ability to edit the job title as well as company name on the connections dashboard using the ‘Actions’ column.

Search Terms Setup:

In order for us to show you the right job openings you will need to select the relevant job search terms. We have a large list of commonly searched terms and you should be able to find your desired term there but in case you don’t, email us at feedback@theconnectbot.com using subject “Search Term Suggestion”.
